Since California winters over the past decade have been largely devoid of snow, I haven't had many opportunities to photograph ice. I found a fresh patch of ice on Yosemite Creek that initially did not look very photogenic so I caused it to crack by placing my tripod on the ice. The cracks gave the ice the patterns that I had pre-visualized.
